ALMA — Alma College students don’t just learn in the classroom — they launch futures.
That’s the message from The Princeton Review, which has named Alma one of only 50 colleges nationwide on its prestigious list of “Colleges That Create Futures.”
The honor highlights schools that excel at connecting students’ talents and interests with meaningful real-world opportunities. Alma also appears on the Review’s “Best Colleges: Best in the Midwest” list — a recognition it has earned every year since the category was introduced in 2004.
“This is such an exciting honor for Alma,” said Alma College President Joe Odenwald. “It really shows what makes this place special — the way our students, faculty, and staff put their heart into everything they do. Every day on campus you can see people working hard, helping each other, and building futures, and it’s great to see that recognized.”
Students told The Princeton Review that Alma offers “plenty of avenues for volunteer work,” along with “institutional resources for student research, service trips, and networking,” plus “many opportunities to study in other parts of the country and world.” Professors are described as “extremely helpful” and “a special feature on our campus,” with relationships that are “lasting and meaningful” and often lead to internships, research, and career connections.
Campus life also stands out. According to the Review, Alma students are “over-involved,” typically joining multiple clubs or organizations. The college’s active Greek community engages deeply both on campus and in the wider community.
“Our rankings are based entirely on what students tell us about their colleges,” said Rob Franek, editor-in-chief of The Princeton Review. “We don’t crown a single ‘best’ school — instead, we aim to give students the insights they need to find the college that’s best for them.”
In its 2025 rankings, The Princeton Review identified 631 colleges across seven regions — Northeast, South, Southwest, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, West, and International — as academically outstanding. The “best” lists are calculated from student survey results and institutional data. Alma is one of only two Michigan schools included in “Colleges That Create Futures,” a list shaped by student surveys as well as interviews with alumni, faculty, and administrators.
