ALMA — Accolades poured in for individual members of the Alma College football team following the Scots’ memorable 2024-25 season.

The season was highlighted by the success of senior running back Eddie Williams, who was named one of 15 semifinalists for the 2025 Gagliardi Trophy, presented by Stearns Bank. Williams rushed for a single-season program record 1,485 yards and 21 touchdowns during his senior campaign, including a 210-yard performance against nationally ranked Adrian that helped Alma clinch its third outright Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) title in four seasons.

A native of Eastpointe, Mich., Williams was named the MIAA Offensive MVP and selected to the All-MIAA First Team, marking his third career all-conference honor. Williams was named by d3football.com and the American Football Coaches Association as a first-team All-American, and a second-team All-American by the Associated Press.

Off the field, Williams also made an impact through community engagement. He served as a coach at a camp hosted by Spark Coaching in Ontario, Canada, and hosted his own camp in Michigan in partnership with KP Elite. In collaboration with the Michigan Urban Youth Alliance, Williams also assisted with the operation of flag football tournaments within the Cornerstone school system.

Senior quarterback Carter St. John enjoyed another strong season both on and off the field. He earned the Pete Schmidt Memorial Scholar-Athlete Award from the MIAA, presented annually since 2001 in honor of Alma alumnus Pete Schmidt. The award is given based on a student-athlete’s involvement in their community and has a GPA requirement of 3.5. St. John led the conference with 20 passing touchdowns and recorded more than 1,600 passing yards during MIAA play.

A native of Zionsville, Ind., St. John was also named to the 2025 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team in recognition of his founding the nonprofit organization QBs vs. Cancer. The organization unites Division III quarterbacks nationwide to host training sessions for middle- and high-school athletes, with proceeds donated to cancer-focused charities selected by each participating quarterback.

Collectively, the Alma College football team enjoyed an excellent season. The Scots advanced to the NCAA Division III Football Tournament for the third time in four years after completing an undefeated 7-0 run through MIAA play. Alma finished the season 8-3 overall, falling to No. 10/13 UW-Platteville in the opening round of the playoffs.

Fourteen Alma student-athletes earned all-conference recognition. First-team selections included Williams; wide receiver Zach Poff; offensive linemen JB Couch and Owen Denk; defensive lineman Jack Anderson; linebacker Jett King; and cornerback Mar’Sean Massenburg. Second-team honorees were St. John; tight end Miles Haggart; offensive lineman Maddox Mozal; defensive lineman Matt Oswald; safeties Brock Beaudrie and Preston Marlatt; and punter Brice Kempf.
