ALMA — In front of a crowd of 2,130 at Bahlke Field on Saturday, the Alma College football team delivered a 35–34 victory over Adrian College, completing a perfect 7–0 run through the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletics Association and locking up the conference championship.
Scots senior running back Eddie Williams — already the program’s all-time leading scorer — seized the moment with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns that powered a dramatic comeback. Williams racked up three scores on the day, bulldozing his way to 231 rushing yards and adding another 63 through the air. Wide receiver Zach Poff hauled in a touchdown and 81 receiving yards, while quarterback Carter St. John accounted for three touchdowns and 229 passing yards in another standout performance.
The Scots close the regular season at 8–2 overall. With the MIAA crown comes an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III playoffs, to be announced Sunday. It’s Alma’s third outright conference title in four years — a feat unmatched since the early 1950s — and yet another milestone in the program’s remarkable resurgence under head coach Jason Couch ’97, who earlier this season became the fastest coach in school history to reach 50 career wins.
In 2023, the Scots finished the regular season undefeated and reached the third round of the playoffs for the first time in program history. For more information on Alma College Athletics, visit almascots.com.
