Q: Can you introduce yourself and share your major?
A: My name is Dahvey Moody, and I’m a senior nursing major at Alma College.
Q: What makes Alma’s nursing program stand out to you?
A: The biggest difference is how easy it is to connect with my professors. Because Alma is a smaller college, the student-to-faculty ratio is low, which means my professors are accessible and genuinely available when I need support. That level of personal attention has been a major factor in my success in the program.
Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in nursing?
A: When I was younger, my parents spent a lot of time in the hospital, and during those moments, nurses were the ones who comforted me and helped me feel safe. Their compassion made a huge impact on me. I want to provide that same care and reassurance to others — whether that’s a child or anyone who needs support.
Q: What are your long-term career goals?
A: After completing my nursing degree, I plan to attend medical school and become an orthopedic surgeon. I’ve always been interested in the connection between medicine and athletics, so orthopedics feels like a natural fit.
Q: You’ve also been part of Alma’s football team. How has that shaped your experience?
A: I’ve played on the football team for four years, and it has played a huge role in who I am — both inside and outside the classroom. Our team brings together people from all over: New York, Ohio, Detroit, the Upper Peninsula, and more. We have different backgrounds, beliefs, and viewpoints, but we choose to embrace those differences.
That environment taught me how to work with all kinds of people and apply that openness to the rest of my life. Football has also made me more disciplined — we’re expected to be at meetings early, follow through on commitments, and hold ourselves accountable. That discipline carries over into my academics and personal life.
Q: How has mentorship influenced your time at Alma?
A: Mentorship has been incredibly important for me. I’ve had mentors who supported me on the field, in the classroom, and in my personal life. I’ve also had the chance to be a mentor myself, especially to younger players on the football team. I try to guide them, share advice, and offer the kind of support I wish I had earlier in my own journey.
