POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for assisting the head coach with all aspects of the intercollegiate women’s lacrosse program. Responsibilities include, but not limited to: coaching, recruiting qualified student-athletes, fundraising, organizing camps, developing schedules, managing the budget, building community support for the program, monitoring academic progress of student-athletes, and ensuring compliance with applicable NCAA rules and regulations.
SUPERVISON RECEIVED/EXERCISED:
Reports to the head women’s lacrosse coach and supervises student assistants.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: – may include, but not limited to the following:
• Assist head coach with all aspects of the team, including practices and competitions.
• Evaluates and recruits qualified student-athletes in accordance with a defined recruiting plan.
• Scout opponents and conduct video analysis.
• Monitor student-athletes’ class schedules, grades, and academic progress.
• Model and enforce sportsmanlike behavior at all times.
• Cooperate with maintenance staff, transportation staff, and other who are involved in supporting the athletic program.
• Uphold and adhere to all rules and regulations of the College, the MIAA, and the NCAA.
• Attend athletic department meetings and events; represent the College positively in all interactions with the community, alumni, media, and other stakeholders.
• Support the mission and philosophy of Alma College and the athletics department.
• Assist with planning and executing fundraising initiatives for the lacrosse program.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Collegiate-level playing and/or coaching experience
• Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency with computer applications
• Strong organizational, event planning, and fundraising skills
• Demonstrated experience or commitment to working with diverse populations
• Willingness and ability to participate actively in practices, work evenings/weekends, and travel as required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Knowledge of NCAA and MIAA conference rules
• Experience in a residential campus environment
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Demonstrated public service orientation and ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and community members
• Ability to work effectively within a diverse team and fast-paced environment
• Flexibility to work varied hours and travel for competitions and recruiting
• Experience working with underrepresented, first-generation, Pell-eligible, and diverse populations.
