Assistant Professor of English and Director of Writing Center

POSITION SUMMARY:

Alma College invites applications for an Assistant Professor of English and Director of Writing Center. This full-time, tenure track position includes a blend of administrative duties in support of Alma College’s Writing Center and teaching duties in the area of Rhetoric and Composition. The teaching load is 2/2, which includes a one course release per semester for administrative duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Applicants should have substantial expertise as a teacher and a scholar in rhetoric and composition, and prior experience with writing centers. Ideal candidates will also have expertise in at least three of the following areas: digital/multimodal composition, including the interaction of writing and artificial intelligence; ESL support; work with developmental writing or bridge programs; and leading faculty workshops in areas like Writing Across the Curriculum or integrating writing into project-based learning.  Specific responsibilities for this position will reflect the candidate’s areas of expertise.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The position requires a Ph.D. in English or Composition. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to liberal arts education at the undergraduate level in an environment emphasizing close faculty-student interaction.
