Fraternity and sorority life at Alma College plays an important role in shaping students’ college experiences — building leadership skills, fostering lifelong friendships, and creating opportunities for service and involvement. Just as importantly, Alma’s Greek community continues to demonstrate a meaningful commitment to academic success.
A strong academic foundation across the community
During the Fall 2025 semester, the fraternity and sorority life (FSL) community included 341 students and earned a combined semester GPA of 3.50. Sororities posted an average GPA of 3.58, while fraternities earned a 3.42, reflecting steady academic performance across organizations.
These results speak to a shared culture of accountability, supported by academic chairs, structured study expectations, and peer encouragement within chapters.
Sororities supporting scholarship and consistency
Alma’s sorority community demonstrated particularly strong academic outcomes this fall, with each chapter contributing to the overall success of women in Greek life.
Alpha Xi Delta led the sorority community with a semester GPA of 3.70, reflecting sustained academic focus across its membership. Phi Sigma Sigma and Alpha Gamma Delta followed closely, each earning a semester GPA of 3.67, underscoring the consistency and depth of academic achievement among Alma’s sororities.
Gamma Phi Beta also posted a strong semester GPA of 3.64, while maintaining one of the highest new member GPAs at 3.73, signaling early academic engagement among first-year members. Kappa Iota contributed to the broader community with a semester GPA of 3.23 and a new member GPA of 2.85, highlighting opportunities for continued growth and support.
Across all sororities, 57 new members earned an average new member GPA of 3.51, illustrating that academic expectations are emphasized early in the membership experience.
Fraternities demonstrating balance and progress
Alma’s fraternities also showed solid academic outcomes during Fall 2025, with each chapter contributing to the overall fraternity average GPA of 3.42.
Phi Mu Alpha posted the highest fraternity semester GPA at 3.46, followed closely by Sigma Chi (3.44) and Zeta Sigma (3.43). These results reflect consistent academic engagement across a range of chapter sizes and class years.
New member performance stood out across several fraternities. Zeta Sigma recorded an exceptional new member GPA of 3.84, one of the highest in the entire Greek community. Phi Mu Alpha’s new members also performed strongly with a 3.68 GPA, while Sigma Chi new members earned a 3.35 GPA, contributing positively to chapter averages.
Additional chapters also played an important role in the fraternity community’s academic profile. Delta Gamma Tau earned a semester GPA of 3.34, demonstrating steady performance across its membership. Tau Kappa Epsilon, the largest chapter by membership, posted a semester GPA of 3.24 and a new member GPA of 3.21, highlighting the academic contributions of a sizable group of students and reinforcing the importance of scalable academic support within larger organizations.
In total, fraternities welcomed 50 new members, whose collective GPA of 3.51 mirrored that of new members across the entire Greek community.
Beyond the numbers
While GPA reports provide a snapshot of academic performance, they represent far more than individual grades. Behind these outcomes are students balancing demanding coursework with leadership roles, service commitments, athletics, and campus employment. For many, fraternity and sorority life offers a smaller, supportive community that reinforces time management, accountability, and goal-setting.
Comparisons with Winter 2024 GPAs also suggest stability across multiple chapters, indicating that academic success within Greek life is not limited to a single semester but reflects ongoing effort.
Taken together, the Fall 2025 results reinforce an important message: Alma College’s fraternities and sororities are united by a shared commitment to academic achievement. Every chapter — regardless of size, ranking, or history — plays a role in shaping a Greek community that values scholarship as a cornerstone of the college experience.
