Tess Miller, DMA, CMP, CPC had her musical debut on the first day of kindergarten singing unbidden for her class. Little did she know that creating a relaxing environment through music was in her future. Today, her portfolio career encompasses freelance performer, flute instructor, Music Practitioner, Core Energy Coach, public speaker, and writer.
Dr. Miller’s dissertation at Michigan State University covered research on music performance anxiety and how to use journal writing to develop performance confidence. She has presented at conferences for the National Flute Association, the College Music Society, among other venues. For over 20 years, Dr. Miller has taught at public and private colleges throughout mid-Michigan, including Alma College and the Michigan State University Community Music School where she maintains active studios.
As a performing artist, she recorded Latin Dance Project on the White Pine Record Label with the Great Lakes Art Music Ensemble (GLAM). As a member of the woodwind quintet Durant Street Winds, she collaborates in engaging concerts for all audience types. In the orchestral realm, Dr. Miller currently plays in the Traverse City Philharmonic and the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra.
Throwing back to kindergarten, Dr. Miller provides bedside therapeutic music at McLaren Greater Lansing as a Certified Music Practitioner (CMP). She also helps busy professionals untangle themselves from burnout and career stagnation as a Certified Professional Coach (CPC), and in 2021, she published The Book of STUCK: Stop Holding Yourself Back and Start Moving Forward.
She lives in St. Johns, MI with composer husband Scott Harding and son, Phoenix.
