Alma College Reports Stable Enrollment and Positive Momentum for Fall 2026

ALMA, Mich. — Alma College's Fall 2026 enrollment reflects continued stability and positive momentum, with total enrollment reaching 1,229 students, an increase of five students from Fall 2025.

Biography

Dr. Pekdemir joined Istanbul University in 1983 as a graduate research associate and visited twice as a visiting scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign from 1988 to 1989 and again in 1998.

He received a Ph.D. degree in Accountancy from Istanbul University in 1990.

He continued working as Assistant Professor of Accounting at the School of Business of Istanbul University (1991), was promoted to Associate Professor of Accounting in 1993, and to Full Professor of Accounting in 1999 at the same institution, where he served until August 2019.

His research interests include accounting history, accounting education, international accounting, sustainability reporting, and empirical financial accounting research. His editorial service recently includes serving on the editorial advisory boards of Accounting Education, Research in Accounting Regulation, and others.

He served as Chairman of the 17th World Congress of Accountants in 2006, the 10th World Congress of Accounting Educators in 2006, and the 33rd European Accounting Association Annual Congress in 2010.

He served as Vice President at Large of the IAAER International Association for Accounting Education & Research (2004-2010), a Member of the Management Committee of the EAA European Accounting Association (2008-2010), a Member of the Council of the AAA American Accounting Association (2009-2010), and VP International of the American Accounting Association (2011 – 2014). He served as a Technical Advisor on both the International Education Standards Board and the Developing Nations Committee, and as a Member of the PAIB Professional Accountants in Business Committee of IFAC.

He served as VP and the Director Focusing on International of the AAA American Accounting Association (2011-2014), Member of the Management Board of the EAA European Accounting Association (2013-2105), the Director of Istanbul Graduate School of Business, Istanbul University (2011-2014), and the Dean of the School of Business, Istanbul University (2014-2019).

He worked as an Assistant Professor of Accounting at the College of Business Administration, University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, WI (2019 – 2026). He currently works at Alma College as a lecturer.

He is married and has two sons and one grandson.
