Student & Alumni Spotlights

No one describes the Alma experience better than those living it. Explore their stories, in their own words, below.

If I didn’t go to a liberal arts college, I feel confident in saying I wouldn’t have a quarter of the opportunities I’ve been given. All you have to do is show up and work hard, and the faculty and staff will go out of their way to help you do whatever it is that you’re interested in.

Contemporary and cutting-edge.

As a new media studies major, you’ll work with a faculty advisor to curate an academic pathway that reflects your passions.

You’ll use film, audio and animation to tell immersive stories. You’ll design video games, create websites and leverage social media to make an impact. And you’ll analyze the social, cultural and ethical implications of emerging and digital media.

You’ll enhance your resume, too. All new media studies majors complete an internship and a capstone project where they apply their specialized talents to a practical problem. Students have used this opportunity to produce podcasts, build brands and devise video or tabletop games.

In addition, our Spring Term courses have included filmmaking and production classes in locations such as Italy, Croatia and Malta.

What You Need to Know

Our recent graduates have built careers in content creation, web and software development, design, advertising, social media, photography and film production — among others.
