POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists the Office of Student Success in providing academic support to student-athletes competing in varsity-sanctioned athletics within the Alma College Athletic Department. The Academic Support Specialist offers student-athletes’ resources that will improve and maintain academic success while helping foster a culture of academic pride and excellence. Data tracking will be used to assist in monitoring student progress.

Position reports to the Director of Student Success
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•Assist in providing academic support for first year through senior level student-athletes. Academic support includes, but is not limited to, aiding in the development of study skills, note-taking, time management, and organizational skills.
•Serve as a liaison in referring students seeking support through classroom accommodations, Registrar’s office, Provost’s office, Financial Aid office, Business office, and Counseling and Wellness services.
• Assist in facilitating student engagement with career planning office.
•Assist the Associate Athletic Director with the review of transcripts and eligibility requirements.
•Assist in providing mid-term outreach to students currently earning grades below a 2.50 GPA.
•Provide support for student-athletes on academic jeopardy and probation.
• Assist in helping student-athletes seek tutoring services, supplemental instruction, test proctoring, and note-taking.
• Support outreach of early response to alerts submitted through the Starfish tracking system.
•Assist and provide support for students receiving accommodations for medical leave.
•Manage data tracking and produce weekly, monthly, end-of semester, and end-of year reports on individual meetings and academic performance.
•Assist with student-athlete study tables when necessary.
•Develop and present sessions about academic support services and study skills to students-athletes.
• Engage in 10-15 hours per week of student-athlete support.
•Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•Bachelor’s degree.
•Experience in a higher education setting or working with collegiate student-athletes.
•Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain professional relationships.
•Strong oral and written communication skills.
•Strong organizational and analytical skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•1-2 years collegiate coaching experience.
•Previous experience in higher education setting working with academic support.
•Previous experience working with student retention software.
