Alpha Gamma Delta has centered its semester on fighting hunger and supporting essential needs.

Service, scholarship, and sustained growth continue to define fraternity and sorority life (FSL) at Alma College. Building on a strong academic foundation in Fall 2025, members of the FSL community have carried that momentum into a semester marked by philanthropy, collaboration, recruitment success, and intentional academic support.

Across campus, chapters have demonstrated that their impact extends well beyond their own membership — reaching into the local community and beyond.

Among the chapters leading philanthropic efforts is Tau Kappa Epsilon, which has raised more than $5,000 so far this year for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The chapter set an ambitious $10,000 annual goal and continues to push toward it. A recent Red Carnation sale during Valentine’s Day, held during lunch and dinner in Hamilton Commons, raised more than $500 alone. Every dollar supports St. Jude’s mission to ensure that no family receives a bill for their child’s treatment.

Beyond fundraising, Tau Kappa Epsilon members have accumulated more than 2,000 service hours this year through volunteer efforts in Gratiot County and their hometown communities. Many plan to continue that service during Spring Break. Members balance these commitments alongside strong academics and participation in Alma athletics.

Musical philanthropy has also played a role this semester. Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia organized two fundraising initiatives: Rock the Block(House), in collaboration with Blockhouse, and the chapter’s Singing Valentines event — both bringing campus and community members together through performance and service.

Sorority chapters have likewise maintained a strong philanthropic presence. Alpha Xi Delta hosted its Xi Rose Grams fundraiser, raising $257, followed by its popular All Xi Dips event, which generated $477. Proceeds support the Kindly Hearts Initiative, benefiting FosterClub and StandUp for Kids, organizations dedicated to assisting youth experiencing foster care or homelessness. The chapter’s service efforts complement its academic distinction: Alpha Xi Delta earned the highest GPA across all fraternities and sororities last semester with a 3.70.

Alpha Gamma Delta has centered its semester on fighting hunger and supporting essential needs. Members packed approximately 60 meal kits for Community Cabinet, donated baby supplies to local families, and partnered with Kappa Iota to organize a month-long hygiene and toiletry drive benefiting RISE Advocacy, a domestic violence and sexual assault shelter serving the Mount Pleasant area. The donation drive resulted in the largest collection of items the chapter has ever received. The chapter also hosted Alpha Grab a Donut, raising funds for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation to support hunger-relief initiatives.

Kappa Iota further supported RISE Advocacy by raising $237 through candy grams and an additional $25 at a separate candy sale, while mailing 60 Valentine’s Day letters to individuals served by the organization. The chapter recently reached 34 members — a record high compared to approximately 20 at this time last year — and has implemented twice-weekly study groups to strengthen academic performance. Members also plan to continue service through an upcoming Alternative Break experience, building on last spring’s volunteer efforts.

Recruitment momentum has extended across the sorority community. Phi Sigma Sigma welcomed six new members this winter — an especially strong class for the term — reflecting continued interest and engagement in fraternity and sorority life at Alma.

Together, these highlights illustrate an FSL community defined not only by tradition, but by forward movement. Through fundraising efforts totaling thousands of dollars, thousands of service hours, academic achievement, and steady membership growth, Alma College’s fraternity and sorority life community continues to invest in causes that matter — on campus, across Gratiot County, and nationwide.
