ALMA — The Alma College football team clinched the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship in dramatic fashion on Saturday, coming from behind in the fourth quarter to top Adrian College, 35-34, and win its third outright conference title in four years.
But the No. 23-ranked Scots aren’t done yet. Alma will hit the road on Saturday, Nov. 29, to take on No. 10 Wisconsin-Platteville (8-2), in the second round of the 2025 NCAA Division III football playoffs. The game, which kicks off at 1 p.m. EST, will be accessible to Scots fans on ESPN+ (subscription required).
Alma College enters its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance carrying both momentum and history. The Scots previously reached the postseason in 1999, 2002, 2004, 2022, and 2023, compiling a 3–5 record in those trips. This year’s team arrives with one of the most explosive offenses in program history, powered by quarterback Carter St. John, Alma’s all-time leader in passing yards, passing touchdowns, and total offense, and running back Eddie Williams, who has rewritten nearly every rushing and scoring record the college has.
Williams is authoring what may be the greatest individual offensive season in the program’s 132-year history. He has already set Alma’s single-season rushing record with 1,428 yards — a total that ranks fourth in all of Division III — and his 20 rushing touchdowns sit second nationally. Add in 285 receiving yards and four receiving scores, and he has become both the Scots’ all-time rushing leader and their first player to surpass 3,000 career rushing yards. Williams has also broken the school’s single-season scoring record with 146 points, becoming the first Scot to eclipse 300 career points. His 171.3 all-purpose yards per game rank ninth in the nation, while his 6.9 yards per carry sit 10th.
As a team, Alma stands among the best in Division III across multiple categories. The Scots rank fifth nationally in total offense (531.5 yards per game) and ninth in rushing offense (262.1 yards per game). They are also among the most efficient units in the country, standing fourth in net punting, fifth in sacks allowed, 10th in first downs gained, 19th in scoring offense at 46.4 points per game, and 20th in red-zone scoring efficiency, converting on 89.1 percent of their trips.
The winner of the Nov. 29 game will move on to play either Bethel (Minnesota), Concordia Wisconsin, or Coe.
