POSITION SUMMARY:
Alma College seeks an energetic and dedicated Assistant Baseball Coach/Recruiting Coordinator to support the head coach in managing all aspects of the college’s intercollegiate baseball program. Responsibilities include coaching, recruiting, fundraising, academic monitoring, community engagement, and ensuring compliance with NCAA, MIAA, and institutional policies.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED/RECEIVED:
- Reports to: Head Baseball Coach
- Supervises: Student assistants
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in coaching and developing student-athletes through practice, competition, and individualized instruction
- Develop and execute a comprehensive recruiting plan; evaluate and recruit qualified prospective student-athletes
- Organize and maintain communication with recruits; track recruitment activities and outcomes
- Support program operations including scheduling, travel logistics, budget management, and scouting opponents
- Monitor student-athlete academic progress and class schedules; support student success and retention
- Promote sportsmanship and model integrity in all program-related activities
- Build positive relationships with alumni, high school and club coaches, and the broader community
- Participate actively in department meetings and college events
- Assist with the coordination of camps, fundraising activities, and social media promotion
- Ensure full compliance with all NCAA, MIAA, and Alma College policies and procedures
- Contribute to a positive team culture and foster a sense of community among student-athletes.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of one year of experience coaching or competing in collegiate baseball.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency with technology and demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with athletic staff, faculty, and students.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience recruiting student-athletes
- Prior involvement in conducting athletic camps or tournaments
- One year experience coaching or competing in baseball
- Experience working with underrepresented, first-generation, Pell-eligible, and diverse populations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to throw batting practice and hit fungo
- Strong public service orientation and ability to engage with diverse populations
- Capable of working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Flexible schedule with availability for travel and weekend/evening responsibilities
- Commitment to student development and academic success.
