Active citizenship and community engagement are core values at Alma College. We work to fulfill our mission by serving generously - locally, regionally and globally.
Alma College uses Helper Helper, a community service smartphone app, to connect volunteers to meaningful experiences in the community. Volunteers can go to the app to sign up and track their community engagement.
AmeriCorps is a national service program that focuses on improving lives and fostering civic engagement. AmeriCorps members address community needs such as increasing academic achievement, mentoring youth, fighting poverty, sustaining national parks, preparing for national disasters and more.
The Alma College AmeriCorps program is designed to meet the AmeriCorps goal of fighting poverty in American communities. AmeriCorps VISTA members at Alma College work alongside community leaders in organizations aimed at meeting challenges such as food insecurity and lack of knowledge regarding postsecondary education options. The Alma College program is designed to build capacity within the community programs by utilizing Alma College students as volunteers in the programs – thus benefiting the programs as well as the learning experience of Alma College students.
