Center for Student Opportunity
The CSO provides both support services and access to practical experiences that enhance your education.
An internship in Chicago that connects you to your dream job. A semester in Europe that opens the world to you. A service project that changes lives in the local community. Wherever you want to go, whatever you want to do, your starting place is here.
We’ll show you how to succeed in the classroom, but also assist you as you plan your personal Venture – an individual experience that could take you across the globe. We’ll teach you important financial skills that position you for personal success, while also giving you the chance to serve others. We’ll help you plan for life after Alma, but also aid you in becoming a responsible leader. Put simply: the CSO is where it all comes together for you.

Financial Counseling
We help you find and use financial resources, research scholarships and understand student loans, effectively budget your finances, and prepare for financial independence after college.
In addition to assisting you in finding financial resources, we also work with you to understand and shape your spending habits, create and work with a budget and how to adjust your financial perceptions into positive, effective financial planning. Our conversations are private.
The Financial Counseling Office is located in the Center for Student Opportunity.

A Team Approach
We work closely with the Diversity and Inclusion Office, the Career and Personal DevelopmenT Office, and the Financial Aid Office to ensure that you you know about the resources available to you on campus.
You can also spot us in the classroom! We hold classroom presentations on financial topics like financial aid, scholarship searches and application tips, good spending habits, and how to organize a personal budget.
Bridge the distance and return to your roots.
We understand the importance of being close to family and friends, especially after time spent apart. That’s why Alma College alumna Honorable Ethel Revels ’69 and family gifted this endowed scholarship. The funds are intended to provide funding to minority students who are attending Alma College from great distances. The funds may be applied to assist students in traveling home domestically between fall and winter term.
The CSO also coordinates all aspects of the Alma Commitment. We work closely with academic advisors to help you stay on track for on-time graduation, provide year-by-year guidance and prepare you for graduation with comprehensive career development.
