Important note about posting unpaid internships: before you post an unpaid internship, please ensure that the position complies with the Department of Labor guidelines for internships under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Post a micro-internship project
Non-profit organizations may submit 20-40 hour remote projects to the PlaidWorks Micro-internship Initiative. Alma College is offering students a PlaidWorks Grant up to $500 when they complete one of these short term (20-40 hour) professional projects, similar to that which could be completed by an intern or entry-level employee, and which can be completed entirely remotely. Learn more and submit a project proposal here.
For-profit entities are not eligible for PlaidWorks grants, but are invited to post paid micro-internship projects specifically for Alma College students at Parker Dewey.
Recruit at a job fair
More than a traditional job fair, our Career EXPLO is a cross between a job fair and networking event, providing upperclassmen with exposure to entry-level jobs and internships while allowing underclassmen to explore potential career paths. We welcome a combination of alumni, employers, and graduate programs to meet with our students during this event.
Our Summer Job and Internship Fair takes place in January and connects employers with students looking for summer opportunities and entry level employment.

Host a Job Shadow
Take a Scot “on the spot” by providing a job shadowing experience! Job shadowing allows students to explore career interests, experience a day-in-the-life of a specific occupation and culture within an organization, and launch meaningful relationships that can support them as they search for internships and employment opportunities. Scots on the Spot job shadow sponsors will be connected with motivated students seeking to explore their field.
Alma Venture Program
The Alma Venture program provides students with up to $2,500 to offset certain costs associated with an eligible internship, research or clinical experience. The program allows students to put what they are learning in the classroom to work in a meaningful way and advance their academic or career goals.
Students typically use this award to help offset their expenses such as room, board, and transportation. Venture support is not available for work for a relative or work based in a private home. The grant is not intended to replace a wage for a position that would otherwise be offered as a paid internship.
Career Development at Alma College adheres to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), Principles for Professional Practice.
