As of August 31 2020, the Alan J. Stone Recreation Center is open to current students, faculty, and staff only. Hours of operation are: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 12 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Masks must be worn at all times and social distancing measures will be in place.
To enter, you must present your Alma ID and your Daily Health Screening Checkmark.
The Stone Recreation Center currently remains closed to the community.
While we regret the impact this will have on campus and within the Alma community, we feel it is a necessary step to promote the overall health and wellness of our community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Please contact Brad Barlog at (989) 463-7950 or email@example.com with any questions.
Whether you want to join a group fitness class, set your own pace on the indoor track, get your heart pumping on a cardio machine, pump iron, play a game of basketball (or volleyball or tennis or floor hockey), or play an intramural sport, we’ve got something for you.
Students, faculty and staff may use the center with their Alma College ID cards. Community members may purchase memberships to the Stone Center, which include pool privileges at the Hogan Center.
Our 53,000-square-foot facility offers four basketball, volleyball and/or tennis courts on the main level with options for roller hockey, inline skating, dodgeball and indoor soccer.
Bike Share Program
The college now has 10 urban style bicycles available to rent by students, college employees and community members.
- Bikes can be checked out by downloading the Movatic App or at the front desk
- The app will require credit card information, but students and college employees will not be charged for use
- Community members may purchase a $30 subscription for yearly access
- Any complications or issues may be reported via the app!
The fitness room houses 26 cardiovascular machines: eight treadmills, nine stationary bikes, five stair climbers, three elliptical trainers, one rowing machine, and a variety of weight machines and free weights.
The facility’s 1,750-square-foot multi-purpose room is used for aerobics, dance, fencing and martial arts classes.
Suspended Running Track
A suspended three-lane track rims the facility; 7.7 laps equals one mile on the inside lane and 7.4 laps equals one mile on the outside lane.
Shower and locker facilities are also available for use in the Stone Center. The lockers are designed for daily use only.
A 600-square-foot climbing wall featuring eight belay stations and lead climbing ropes makes up most of the Center’s west wall.
No experience is required to use the climbing wall during open hours (see below). Anyone 13 or under must be accompanied by an adult and those under 18 years must be signed in by an adult. All required equipment is provided and a limited number of climbing shoes are available for use. Either climbing shoes or clean sneakers may be worn while using the wall.
