International Students

We look forward to welcoming you to the Alma College campus for the fall term, which begins August 29, 2022.

The first day of classes for the fall term is August 29, 2022. If this is not the start date reflected on your I-20 form, please contact Dani Rossman, assistant vice president for student affairs, for an updated I-20 form, to reflect this new date, as well as a letter of support for travel to the United States (if needed).

Incoming students who cannot secure an F-1 visa at this time, or live in a country with travel restrictions in place due to the pandemic, should contact Dani Rossman, assistant vice president for student affairs, as soon as possible.

Traveling to Campus

International students who are traveling by air from outside the U.S. should arrange to arrive at the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) or Capital Region International Airport (LAN) airport on Jan. 3, in time to take one of these four airport shuttles arranged by Alma College. All shuttles will leave DTW at 5 p.m. and LAN at 6 p.m. You can sign up at the Transportation webpage.

Please ensure your flight arrives at least one hour prior to the shuttle departure. This will allow for time to collect your baggage as well as process through customs. Check flight times carefully, as we are unable to arrange individual airport pickup this year and, unfortunately, public transportation from DTW to Alma is unavailable at this time.

Contact Dani Rossman with your flight details once you purchase your ticket. If you will spend more than a week at another location in the U.S. prior to traveling to campus, see below.

Students traveling to campus from within the U.S. or arriving by land from Canada should plan to move in accordance with the move-in instructions they receive from Residence Life.

Arrival on Campus

Students who need to quarantine upon arrival because they are not vaccinated should contact Dani Rossman in advance of arriving. All students arriving from international locations will be tested for COVID-19 within 3 to 5 days of arrival, and testing will be available on campus. The scheduled airport shuttles, as well as room and board during the early arrival and quarantine periods, are provided by the college at no additional cost.
