Dining Services

Together with our campus dining partner, Sodexo, we will continue to offer culinary expertise, fresh ingredients and healthy options — as well as an increased focus on safety. We offer contact-less payment for meal swipes and multiple locations to pick up a meal to go, which allows for smaller crowds.

New Guidelines

To help ensure the safety of all in our community, we have made the following changes.

  • We now offer contact-less payment and food ordering through the Bite University app, which has replaced the Bite app. Using the Bite University app allows students to see their food options on campus and where to find it, then skip the rush and pick it up. 

  • In-person dining at Starbucks is currently closed. New signage regarding social distancing and other messages have been installed.

  • In order to reduce crowd sizes, we are offering several locations for individuals to pick up a meal to go; including Hamilton, Joe’s (relocated to North Van Dusen), Dow Cart and Hogan Lobby. Pre-ordering is only available at Joe’s.
  • To improve safety and further reduce crowd sizes, in-person dining in Hamilton is now limited to students and certain college guests only. Faculty and staff can still utilize meals to-go from Hamilton.

  • Offerings at the Dow Cart are being expanded to allow for more dining options.

  • Plexiglass partitions are being used at every cash stand. Plexiglass has also been installed at every table in Hamilton.

  • Tables and seating in dining areas have been adjusted to allow for six feet of social distance.

  • All food is being served by the Sodexo staff and handed to students at the end of the line.

  • Beverage stations will be contact-less and/or served by Sodexo staff.

  • Joe’s Place and the convenience store have been moved to North Van Dusen.

Staff Training

Staff have undergone comprehensive training and are following new protocols, including input from the state of Michigan and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Key facets of that training include:

  • Daily health screening of all employees before beginning work, including temperature checks and health screening questions.

  • Sanitation of all service areas and high touch points, including tables/seating areas, countertops, drink machines, all food preparing and service areas, handrails and door handles, using CDC-approved chemicals.

  • Use of masks and gloves by all employees during working hours and when on campus.

  • Daily screening of vendor deliveries, including temperature checks.

  • Kitchen areas have been redesigned to allow for social distancing.
