POSITION SUMMARY:
The athletic training student intern is a temporary, 15 week position equivalent to one academic semester, for students in the CAATE Accredited Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) from Central Michigan University. Alma College Athletic Training will provide direct supervision of the athletic training student intern. The student will participate in the totality of care provided by athletic trainers. The experience should provide for a logical progression of increasingly complex and autonomous patient-care and client-care experiences for the student’s development of professional level practice. Students are expected to follow the rules, regulations, and policies of the immersive clinical site in which they are placed. Alma College is a member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and the NCAA Division III. The position will assist in providing injury prevention, recognition, evaluation, appropriate medical referral, treatment and rehabilitation for Alma College student athletes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCIONS: may include, but not limited to the following:
• Serve a student intern assisting athletic teams on campus
• Maintain accurate medical records for student athletes
• Assist head athletic trainer with daily athletic training room operations
• Maintain correspondence and cooperation with team physicians, health care professionals, and athletic training department
• Additional duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
• Ability to communicate effectively to various groups and individuals
• Knowledge of NCAA Division III and MIAA compliance and conference rules, and an understanding of the NCAA Division III student athlete philosophy
• Ability to work weekends and evenings, along with travel
• A valid driver’s license and good driving record
• Ability to manage multiple tasks
• Ability to fulfill essential functions of the position
