POSITION SUMMARY:
This position assists the Head Men’s Basketball Coach with the administration and development of all aspects of Alma College’s NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to coaching, recruiting, fundraising, organizing camps, scheduling, budget management, academic monitoring, and fostering community engagement – all in strict compliance with NCAA, MIAA, and College policies.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED:
This position reports to the Head Men’s Basketball Coach and supervisors Student Assistants.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – may include, but not limited to the following:
- Assist with all aspects of the basketball program, including practice preparation, competition management, and scheduling.
- Support the development and execution of the program’s recruiting plan; identify and recruit qualified student-athletes.
- Assist with fundraising initiatives and revenue-generating activities to support the program.
- Monitor academic progress, class schedules, and grades of student-athletes to ensure academic success.
- Model and promote sportsmanship and ethical behavior among student-athletes.
- Collaborate with College administration on alumni engagement efforts.
- Uphold all rules and regulations of Alma College, the MIAA, and the NCAA with the highest integrity.
- Represent Alma College positively in interactions with prospective students, parents, alumni, the campus community, and the public.
- Support the philosophy and mission of the College and the athletic department.
- Foster the holistic development of student-athletes as engaged members of the campus and broader community.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Men’s Basketball Coach or Athletics Director.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Collegiate-level playing and/or coaching experience
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Knowledge of NCAA and MIAA regulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications and organizational tools.
- Experience with event planning, camps, fundraising, and financial management.
- Recruiting ability and demonstrated commitment or experience working with diverse populations.
- Willingness to actively participate in practices, travel, and work evenings/weekends as needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of NCAA Division III and MIAA compliance standards.
- Understanding of the Division III philosophy and the student-athlete experience.
- Experience working with underrepresented, first-generation, Pell-eligible, and diverse populations
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
