My career path and accomplishments since graduating from Alma:
I attended graduate school at Wayne State University and received my Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry in 2016. I started working as an assistant professor of chemistry at Olivet College in the fall of 2016 and received tenure in the fall of 2021. I teach a wide variety of courses including general chemistry, inorganic chemistry, chemical instrumentation, physical chemistry, and special topics courses.
My Alma experience prepared me for my career, graduate school, and life by
Attending Alma College helped me prepare for my future in academia due to many opportunities to work both in research and in the classroom. I was fortunate enough to spend 6 semesters and 2 summers working with Dr. Turk on an independent research project. This was great preparation for graduate school with designing and revising experiments as well as working with the many instruments that Alma has available to students. I also was able to work as a lab assistant for general chemistry, organic chemistry, and physical chemistry during my time at Alma College. This helped prepare me for when I started working in academia and designing my own courses.
