Since graduating from Alma

After graduating from Alma College I accepted a position as a special education teacher and varsity cheerleading coach at Whitehall High School. This experience taught me a lot about being a teacher and needing to be flexible while always having a plan. I worked at WHS for two years before accepting a position as a special education teacher and varsity cheerleading coach at Grand Haven High School. Working at the school I attended has been incredibly rewarding and eye-opening. I enjoy working with teachers who I had as a student and learning from them. I also love that I can continue my involvement with cheer through coaching. It is so much fun to share my love of the sport with my team. At GHHS, I teach Resource Room English 11, Directed Study, and co-teach English 11, Government, and Economics.

My Alma education

Attending Alma College pushed me out of my comfort zone which has helped me to become confident in myself as an educator and person. The education department’s high expectations of its students encouraged me to strive to be better in my field and to always put my students first. Being a part of the cheer and STUNT team was also an incredible experience. Coach Sabourin pushed us to be the best version of ourselves and always instilled a “team-first” mentality. I strive to continue this in my own life and work to instill it in the high school athletes I coach every day. Alma College also taught me to become a lifelong learner. This year I have decided to begin graduate school at Grand Valley State University to obtain a Masters in Educational Leadership with a Special Education emphasis.
