Kevin Wenzel

My hometown when I was a student was:

Lapeer, MI

I graduated from Alma in:

2009

I studied:

History and Social Studies Group Major

I currently live in:

Oxford, MI

I am now:

AP US History teacher at Lapeer High School

Since graduating from Alma:

I have been a History Teacher for the past 8 years in varying roles, teaching everything from 6th grade to 12th grade in that time. In addition I have coached both football and track in various roles for LCS.

My Alma education:

Helped to shape and define me as a teacher and an individual. Alma helped to prepare me for my professional choice by allowing field placements early in your academic career as well as introducing me to many professionals who were truly invested in my success.

My favorite professor(s) included:

Dr. Ed Lorenz and Dr. Jamie Smith. They were both awe inspiring teachers who I have looked up to and tried to emulate. I owe a lot of what I know and how I teach to those two.

How Alma has helped with my current plan/job/graduate school/etc.:

Alma gave me the opportunity to excel as a educator. Not only did I learn the prerequisite knowledge I needed to teach my students from my professors, but I also had the opportunity to learn from some the brilliant minds of my peers.

Advice I would give a new graduate:

I continue to speak highly of the unique opportunities afforded students at Alma to my students today. I encourage all of them to see as many campuses as possible and consider all types of post-secondary education options.
