Type of Alma Venture experience:

Internship

Summary of your experience:

Internship with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) Group Global Command Center in Chicago, IL, where I served on the Markets Integrity Team.

What did you learn as a result of this experience?

I found this experience very valuable because I learned what I did and did not like. My major is accounting, but I wanted to look into the economics field to see if I would like it more than what I was studying. It turns out that I didn’t, but that is extremely beneficial because it solidifies that I am on the right path in school.

How has your Alma Venture solidified or altered your career goals?

My experience was most valuable because it solidified that I am on the right path in school and pursuing what I am most passionate about. I look forward to finishing my undergraduate degree at Alma College, and pursuing an accounting profession within business in the future.

What was the most rewarding experience during your Alma Venture?

I had the incredible experience of participating in an intern trading date, where had to take news releases and other sources to gain knowledge on how to be most successful with trading futures. I believe this experience alone provided me with a better understanding of how a financial industry works. It’s a big advantage as a junior who is looking to develop a career.

My favorite moment was being able to see the Chicago Board of Trade trading floor. I got to see the very last trading pit that exists, which is never something I thought I’d be able to experience as a summer intern.

What advice would you give a student considering this type of Alma Venture?

Apply for Venture, it may give you the opportunity to grow as a professional while living somewhere like a big city where you can learn a new diversified culture.
