Class of

2018

My hometown is

Roscommon, MI

My major(s):

Marketing/Communication

I'm involved in:

I am the Vice President of Service for Alpha Phi Omega (the service fraternity on campus), the treasurer for Alma College Rotary, and a member of the Food Recovery Network.

After I graduate I plan to

I don’t have a concrete plan of what I would like to do, but I would enjoy doing something with advertising. As a Marketing/Communication major, I love working with people and am very interested in media and its effects on society.

My favorite place on campus is

I don’t have a favorite. If I have to choose it would probably be in SAC after all of the classes are over. I like to find an open classroom and work. It’s really quiet and it helps me get a lot done and really focus.

Some of my favorite professors include

My favorite professors are Professor Balfanz (Henry) and Dr. Gilbert. Both professors are very personable and really demonstrate that they care for their students. They show an interest in their students beyond the classroom.

So far, my favorite class(es) has/have been

Relational Communication. This was the class that made me want to become a com major. It was A LOT of hard work, but it paid off in the end. One of the most rewarding classes I have taken as a student.

I'd advise an Alma freshman to

Be humble. You may come from high school being at the top of your class, but you will learn quickly you are not as smart as you think you are. You will take many courses here, some not in your major. You may not feel like you are at the top anymore; don’t let this discourage you—rather grow from it.

I'd tell a student considering coming to Alma

Many people come to college for the experience, but the ultimate goal is to get a degree that will get you a job. Consider academics when looking at Alma. This school allows you to have small classes with professors who will remember your name. Ask yourself if you would rather blend in. If this is the case, I would recommend a bigger school. Alma will help you stand out among your peers.

What I like most about studying at Alma is

I like the small environment. Sometimes it can feel too small, but I like being able to talk to my professor and not just be a stranger to them. They understand your learning style and work with you.

My favorite part about living on campus is

I like being able to walk around and see familiar faces. It is comforting being able to recognize faces, even if you just had one class with them.

I went to

I haven’t went abroad yet, but definitely plan on it.
