Joe Stephens

My hometown when I was a student was

Maple Rapids, MI

I graduated in

2006

I studied

I majored in English and minored in mathematics, while getting my secondary education certification. I also played varsity baseball.

I currently live in

Coloma, MI

I am now

the head of the Math Department at Coloma High School where I teach Statistics, Algebra II, and Geometry. I am also the school’s head varsity football coach and assistant varsity baseball coach.

Since graduating from Alma

I married my wife Stephanie (Druskinis, ’05 grad), and have had two boys Brennan (5) and Colton (2).  I have earned my master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Marygrove College.  This coming school year will be my 11th.

My Alma education

prepared me to be more than just a teacher isolated in a classroom, or a master of my content area.  The entire experience as a student, athlete and a member of the campus community helped prepare me for leadership roles in my school.  Alma allowed me an opportunity to develop as a leader.  I think that my experiences helped to make me well-rounded enough to see the world from the perspective of others.  Understanding others is essential in being able to motivate groups that are comprised of individuals who have diverse thoughts, opinions and backgrounds towards a common goal.

My favorite place(s) on campus included

Klenk Park and the Rec Center.

My most vivid/best memory of my time at Alma is

being involved with new friends from all walks of life that were all out to better themselves and their future communities.  The friendships that were created at Alma are some of the strongest ones that I have to this day.
