The course will examine the historical, cultural, and societal events that have resulted in the development of modern psychology. Among the topics examined will be: the technological innovations that led to the founding of the first psychology lab in Leipzig in 1879; the zeitgeist of 1900 Vienna that led to the development of the psychoanalytic tradition; the rise of the Nazis and the holocaust leading to many developments in social psychology. Spring Term only.


Prerequisite: PSY-121 and permission
