Determining the mechanisms for species coexistence is a fundamental goal of ecology. This projects aim is to link two seemingly disparate mechanisms (e.g., negative distance-dependent mortality and light-based niche partitioning) for species coexistence via plant-soil feedback processes, which will result in a more mechanistic understanding of forest community dynamics.
