Information Technology Services

Jay Chapin

My position was originally created to help support the new “Quodata” enterprise resource package, which in 1999 was Windows-only software.  Around that time most of the computers on campus were manufactured by Apple. Quodata was later renamed “Jenzabar” and was subsequently replaced by a new ERP called “Datatel”,  whose parent company was also later bought out and is now called “Ellucian”.

Initially the position’s duties were installation and maintenance of Windows 98 and Windows NT computers. Microsoft has changed a lot since then, as have the college’s needs.  I now support over 250 workstation computers as well as having an active hand in the structuring and implementation of our Active Directory schema.

By creating my position, the college afforded uses a wider range of computer choices.  Now most faculty and staff may choose either MacOS or Windows.

In my role at Alma, I get most excited when...

New computers arrive.

What I love most about Alma College is...

the community, both campus and city of Alma.

I chose to work at Alma College because...

I had positive experiences earning my degree here, and my wife and I wanted to move to a smaller town (from Lansing).
