The Alma College Jazz Ensemble will perform its spring show, titled “Colors of Jazz,” at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 13 in the Remick Heritage Center.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors 62 and up, and free for Alma college staff, students and youth 18 and under. Seating is reserved. Call (989) 463-7304 for ticket information.

“I have called the concert ‘Colors of Jazz’ because most of the pieces include an obvious color reference in the title,” says Jeff Ayres, instructor of music. “With others, the reference to color is more discreet, but mostly blue.”

Joining the ensemble for the concert will be vocalists Adam Mossoian, Troy senior, in “As Long as I’m Singin,’” and Summer Eipper, Greenville sophomore, in “Orange Colored Sky.”

“The programs we have presented in the past had no unifying themes but simply included some of my favorites that featured the strengths of the group,” says Ayres. “This is my fourth semester as director of the ensemble, and I am pleased to say we have grown together and the students can play most anything I might choose for them.

“If you haven’t heard us play before, I would recommend this program,” says Ayres. “We have some great soloists who really shine.”

Student members include:

  • Elliot Bates, Grand Rapids senior
  • Andrew Belanger, Holland sophomore
