FAQ’s Alma College Student Health Insurance
Do I have to carry health insurance to attend Alma College?
Yes. Everyone must have current medical insurance. If you do not have insurance, you can enroll in the Alma College Student Health Insurance.
Do you accept my health insurance in the Alma area?
We accept most insurances and will bill your insurance. It would be beneficial to contact your insurance company and explain that you will be out of the area and if there is any need to global authorization while you are in Alma. Especially if you have a HMO, United Health Care or out-of-state insurance.
I am a international student. Do I have to purchase the Alma College Student Health Insurance even though I have my own accident insurance from my home country?
Yes. Any international/visiting student having a F,J or other VISA must purchase the Alma College Student Health Insurance.
How do I sign up for the Alma College Student Health Insurance?
There are certain times during the year that are “Open Enrollment” times. The link can be found on the student’s portal and the Wilcox Medical Center homepage. There will be deadlines to be enrolled or waived out of. If enrollment has ended, please contact Anne Lambrecht at lambrechtak@alma.edu or 989-463-7225.
How do I waive out of the Alma College Student Insurance plan?
The link can be found on the student’s portal and the Wilcox Medical Center homepage. If this is not done by the deadline, the student will automatically be enrolled and charged for the Alma College Student Insurance plan.
What information do I need when I go to waive out of the Alma College Student Insurance plan?
You will need the subscriber’s name on the insurance card, ID number, Group number, Claim address on the back of the card, date of birth of the student, their student ID number and home address.
Do I have to waive out of the Alma College Student Insurance plan every year even if my insurance status has not changed?
Yes. If you do not, you will be enrolled and your account will be charged.
If you automatically enroll me in the Alma College Student Insurance plan do I have insurance then?
Yes. You will still need to go to the website to activate the insurance and print out your insurance card.
