Seniors Earn Academic, Service, Leadership Awards

The Outstanding Senior, Leadership and Service Awards were presented at the 2015 Senior Dinner. In addition, the seniors recognized outstanding faculty.

Several Alma College seniors have received honors for academic and campus leadership achievement. In addition, seniors announced the 2015 recipients of the Outstanding Faculty Awards. The awards were presented at the college’s Senior Dinner April 17.

Lauren EngelsLauren EngelsOutstanding Senior Leadership and Service Award

Lauren Engels of Livonia and Blake Padget of Westland received the 2015 Outstanding Senior Leadership Award. Students are nominated for the award by campus organizations, and a committee selects finalists. The winner is chosen by a vote of the senior class.

Also recognized was the Alma College volleyball team, which won the Student Organization Commitment to Service Award.

Presidential Honors Program Recipients

The following students received honors designation for successfully completing all requirements of the Presidential Honors Program:

• Richard Dominguez of San Antonio, Texas, new media studies major
• Lauren Engels of Livonia, foreign service major
• Allison Fields of White Lake, chemistry major
• Jessica McLeod of Bad Axe, political science and English major
• Anna Weber of Mattawan, biology major

Barlow Trophy

Caroline Asiala of Bay City is the 2015 recipient of the Barlow Trophy, Alma College’s most prestigious award for a graduating senior. Read more about Caroline’s award.

Campus Compact Newman Civic Fellows Award

Lauren Engels of Livonia received the Campus Compact Newman Civic Fellows Award, which honors inspiring student leaders who have demonstrated an investment in finding solutions for challenges facing communities throughout the country. Read more the Campus Compact award.

Alma College senior Maggie Peacock of Batavia, Ill., has been awarded the prestigious post-graduate Fulbright Scholarship to teach and study in Malaysia. Read more about the Fulbright Scholarship.

Faculty Receive Recognition at Honors Day

Alma College seniors recognized Dana Aspinall, Elizabeth Cameron and Murray Borrello with Outstanding Faculty Awards. The recipients are chosen by a vote of the senior class, with one recognized in each of the college’s academic divisions.

Aspinall, associate professor of English, was the recipient for the humanities division.

Cameron, professor of business administration, was the recipient for the social sciences division.

Borrello, instructor of environmental studies, was the recipient for the natural sciences division.
