Jazz Ensemble ‘Too Funky for Words’

The annual spring jazz performance will feature a full big band of 18 students performing a variety of music with featured soloists from each section of the band.

Jazz Ensemble Jazz EnsembleThe Alma College Jazz Ensemble performs its annual spring concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, in the Remick Heritage Center.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors 62 and up, and free for all Alma College staff, students and youth 18 and under. Seating is reserved. Call (989) 463-7304 for ticket information.

Jazz Ensemble Jazz EnsembleThe show promises to deliver “something for everyone,” says Visiting Instructor and Director Jeff Ayres. The song list includes a ballad, two Latin numbers, a piece in 5/4 meter, three up-tempo swing numbers, and one that Ayres refers to as “too funky for words.”

Guest performers Christian Gilbert, a 2012 Alma College graduate, and Tom Rice of Midland will join the students for the performance. In addition, two high school students will be featured — Clifton Metcalf of Alma High School and Lauren Duflo from Fulton-Middleton High School.
