Transition Assistance Program Counselor

Alma College is accepting applications for the Transition Assistance Program Counselor position.

Position Summary:
The Alma College Transition Assistance Program (TAP) is a funded King-Chavez-Parks (KCP) Competitive Grant initiative that focuses on providing services to economically disadvantaged community college students interested in transferring to Alma College. Alma College is seeking a higher education professional to work primarily with transfer students. As a KCP Competitive Grant funded position, the role is subject to the awarded yearly budget. This position collaborates
extensively with the Director of Diversity and Inclusion and Registrar and will develop and implement a comprehensive recruitment plan and coordinate programming for potential and current TAP participants both on and off campus.

Essential Functions:
• Serve as a point of contact for prospective and current transfer students during each stage of the college search (applicant, admit, deposit and enrolled), enrollment and retention process.
• Coordinate with the Admissions Office to develop relationships with Alma College’s partner community colleges.
• Collaborate with Admissions and the Registrar’s Office to assist in various projects to improve transfer services including updating and determining articulation agreements, developing and updating course by course equivalency guides, updating internal transfer credit database through course research and faculty assistance and streamlining transcript evaluation processes.
• Work collaboratively with Student Affairs in developing and implementing strategic support service programming for potential and current transfer students to promote access, transparency, retention and degree completion.
• Oversee the Transfer Living Learning Community and Scot Success Transfer Dual Enrolled Program.
• Manage the King-Chavez-Parks (KCP) Michigan College/University Partnership
(MICUP) Program Grant including budget management, data collection, and reporting.
• Track students’ academic progress each academic term to ensure attendance, academic progress, and retention.
• Identify at-risk students, determine potential issues, and connect them with appropriate support services.
• Partner with Alma College Offices, including the Diversity and Inclusion Office,
Admissions Office, and Academic Support Office, to perform these duties.
• The position requires extensive regional travel throughout the year, as well as some night and weekend work. Work will also include targeted communication planning, tele counseling with incoming and current transfer students and participation in campus events.
• Hire, train, and provide supervision for student employees.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
• Strong communication skills (interpersonal and written)
• Ability to connect and build relationships with current and prospective students and families.
• Experience creating, managing, and assessing events and/or programs, particularly those serving transfer students and economically and/or academically disadvantaged students.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive and collaborative relationships with
community-based organizations and offices.
• A valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• Self-motivated and goal oriented.
• Ability to work both independently as well as part of a team.
