Digital Content Strategist

Alma College is currently a Digital Content Strategist who will service as one of the college’s primary storytellers and content creators.  Responsibilities include planning, scheduling and creating content for web and social media (including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.), that is engaging, creative and compelling. The digital content strategist also monitors the college’s social media accounts as an institutional voice of Alma College. The successful candidate must be willing to monitor social media networks during regular business and non-business hours and occasionally attends events on evenings and weekends. The digital content strategist is a critical member of an integrated marketing team that collaborates on multimedia campaigns which support the work of admissions, advancement and athletics, as well as overall brand promotion.  


Social Media Coordination

• Work with the director of college communications and associate vice president for communication and marketing to develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy, connecting our various audiences and communicating key messages in support of the college’s marketing and recruitment efforts.

• Continuously monitor college-related conversations on social media, notifying supervisors of positive or negative feedback and trends. Interact with audiences as needed. Assist with crisis communication when assigned.

• Serve as the institutional voice of Alma College’s official social media channels, especially Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn, focusing on meaningful engagement of current and prospective students, alumni, community members, faculty, staff and other key constituents.

• Serve as a social media consultant on best practices to campus constituents who are seeking to develop a social media presence.

Content Creation

• Lead production of content across all platforms; using skills and overseeing contractors in writing, graphic design, photography and video to create compelling content that best serves the platform as well as the topic at hand. Following Alma College brand guidelines, work to expand our social media presence with our target markets.

• Participate as assigned in major college events, seeking opportunities for meaningful content that creates a sense of engagement for those who are unable to attend.

• Assist with a variety of department duties including updating websites, calendars and communication platforms.

• Assist with the writing and coordination of social media ads and other types of online advertising.

Required Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree in new media studies, communications, journalism, art and design, or a related field.

• At least one year of related experience in public or media relations, journalism, or social media communication.

• Understanding of and experience with social media, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and other popular platforms.

• Ability to shoot and edit short videos.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience operating social media for a business, nonprofit or other organization.

• Experience promoting special events.
