Technical Director and Coordinator of the Oscar E. Remick Heritage Center for the Performing Arts

Alma College seeks a Technical Director and Coordinator of the Oscar E. Remick Heritage Center for the Performing Arts. Alma’s Oscar E. Remick Heritage Center for the Performing Arts is home to the 500-seat Presbyterian Hall and 200-seat Charles J. Strosacker Theatre, both providing space for theatre performances, choir and musical concerts and prominent speakers. The Heritage Center also hosts a 2,400 square-foot dance studio that provides classroom space for a variety of dance classes. The Technical Director and Coordinator for the Oscar E. Remick Heritage Center for the Performing Arts is responsible for operating, protecting and maintaining the center’s assets. The college is proud to offer a comprehensive benefits package for its employees and a starting annual salary of $47,000-$50,000.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and staff Heritage Center events and performances
  • Coordinate technical arrangements and design needs for the entire Alma College campus (i.e. student and public events in Presbyterian Hall, Opera House commencement and convocation, fall conference, etc.)
  • Set up of all maintenance and repair activities for equipment used. Purchase or replace equipment as need.
  • Assist Theatre and Dance professors with course and lab work as needed.
  • Work with the Communication and Marketing Office on production programs to ensure that all information is complete and correct.
  • Educate and mentor theatre, dance and music students and stage managers on the process of setting up events and productions. Train students on proper techniques and set up of equipment.
  • Prepare and budget the Heritage Center annual budget.
  • Provide supervision to building staff and students.
  • Additional job related duties as assigned by the direct supervisor.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; master’s degree (MS or MFA) preferred.
  • Strong technical and communication skills with an appreciation for the importance of artistic expression in an educational setting.
  • Experience with computer aided design (CAD)
  • Broad knowledge of commonly used lighting and equipment as well as audio and video equipment.
  • Industry practices for lighting and A/V shop prep, hang, and run. Industry practices for recording of audio, video and live streaming. Industry practices with live sound. Industry practices for remote TV and radio productions. Industry practices for efficient load-in and -out of the scenery, lights, etc. Industry practices for equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to work closely with students, faculty, visiting performers and patrons.
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours as needed.
