CCCE Summer Internship Program

Local organizations are invited to submit internship descriptions to be part of the summer internship program. Student recruitment will begin in early February.

Organizations in Gratiot, Isabella and Montcalm counties interested in hosting Alma College interns during Summer 2022 are invited to apply to participate in the Center for College and Community Engagement Summer 2022 Internship Program.

This program will coordinate with local organizations seeking Alma College student interns to recruit and support local interns for summer 2022, and to share success stories about local organizations and interns with the campus community in fall 2022. The CCCE will provide professional development opportunities and additional support for students interning in mid-Michigan and their host organizations. The program includes both summer-long internships (typically 1-4 months and at least 150 hours) and micro-internships (20-40 hour projects that can be completed remotely).

Student interns can take part in a variety of projects and add value to their host organizations in many ways. For example:

Asia Patterson participated in the PlaidWorks Micro-internship Program

  • Our project was a data analysis exercise. As an organization we have always had a difficult time quantifying how our nature preserves are used and their impact on our communities. Now we have a useful data set that we can share immediately with our donors and in the future when we complete grant applications.” – Mike LeValley, Chippewa Watershed Conservancy
  • Our intern was a great asset to us. She helped us with several social media and creative projects. Her work resulted in more community partners as well as newly developed tools to share our mission through social media.” –Jake Gregory, Hope House

  • Having a student work virtually [in a micro-internship] was a different idea and at first we didn’t know how it would work out, but with weekly check-ins, and trusting the student was completing the research, the end product was rewarding.” – Eli Hall, United Way of Gratiot and Isabella Counties

Participation includes the following benefits:

For host organizations:

  • Recruiting support – CCCE will promote participating internships to students, faculty, and staff, including targeted emails to students in relevant majors. Additional support services, such as scheduling on-campus interviews are available upon request.
  • Consultation with Alma College Career and Personal Development staff to answer questions or offer support, upon request, about how to maximize the experience internship experience for both your intern(s) and the organization
  • Organizational visibility, including when your internship is highlighted on the CCCE social media and blog
  • Invitation to program wrap-up reception to celebrate our interns and community partnerships

For student interns:

  • Eligibility for a “Live Responsibly” Venture grant of up to $2,500 for a 150-hour internship, or $250-$500 for a micro-internship of 20-40 hours to offset expenses such as room, board, and transportation
