Chief Financial Officer/Vice President for Finance (CFO)

Alma College is currently accepting application materials for the position of Chief Financial Officer/Vice President for Finance (CFO).  


The Chief Financial Officer/ Vice President for Finance (CFO) is the senior executive officer for Alma College’s financial resources. The CFO works closely with the college president and other college cabinet members and reports to the Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer. The CFO is responsible for all matters pertaining to the management and operation of accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, budget management and control, student aid disbursement, budget preparation, financial information systems, credit management, collections, fiscal planning, financial statement preparation, investing, and payroll.

The CFO plays a key role in the management and operation of the institution and serves as the fiduciary face to both the board and the college. The next CFO of Alma College will serve as an essential strategic partner to the president, working collaboratively with them, the board of trustees, the senior leadership team, faculty, staff and student leaders to assure a successful and stable financial future for the college.

The CFO supports and staffs the board of trustees’ Audit, Finance and Infrastructure, and Investment committees and has primary responsibility for the development and implementation of the college’s annual operating budget of approximately $50 million along with an endowment of close to $140 million. Alma College has been strategic and disciplined in building a strong financial foundation.

The CFO is expected to be innovative and entrepreneurial in the pursuit and development of strategies that fully optimize resources and further the college’s overall academic, administrative, and strategic initiatives. The new CFO will serve as a close partner to the president and the senior leadership team in the on-going implementation of Evergreen: A Dynamic Plan for Alma College, Alma’s strategic plan, ensuring a stable financial framework for all elements of the plan. The CFO assures that the financial and services infrastructure of the institution is appropriate to its goals; employs an understanding of systems and the technology tools available to facilitate institutional effectiveness; focuses appropriately on the ever-increasing need to proactively improve the financial control environment; and provides clear communication that enables the entire college to function optimally.


The CFO reports to the Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer  oversees the Financial Services Office and the Financial Aid Office.


· Bachelor’s Degree is required. A CPA or a Master’s Degree is preferred.

· Extensive financial and budget management experience is required.

· Strong leadership and strategic planning abilities are required.

· The ability to project a strong positive image of the college through interactions with all constituencies conducting business with the college is required.

· Exceptional aptitude in financial activities management is required.
