Lecturer, Department of Music

The Department of Music at Alma College, Alma, Michigan invites applications for the position of Lecturer for the 2021-2022 year. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position beginning August 2021.


The department seeks a candidate who will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts context. The department supports both a B.A. in Music and a B.M. in Music Education. We seek a dynamic choral director with strengths in historical musicology and music education. The successful candidate would be expected to conduct the College Chorale (a treble ensemble) and teach required courses for music majors in music history and music education. A D.M.A. or Ph.D. is strongly preferred, but candidates who are ABD or with a master’s degree will be considered. Previous teaching and conducting experience are essential.


Review of applications will begin February 15 and will continue until the position is filled.

Video of conducting and classroom teaching are not required in this initial phase, but will be asked of all finalists.
