Vice President for Student Affairs

Alma College seeks a dynamic student-centered leader to be its next Vice President for Student Affairs. As the leader for the student affairs sector, the vice president provides leadership and creative vision for student housing, student conduct, Greek life, counseling, and health and wellness services. The leader also works collectively with career services and academic advising. The Vice President also works actively with the Director of Diversity and Inclusion to promote diversity initiatives in student affairs and leads the college’s retention efforts.


A key member of the President’s cabinet, the Vice President for Student Affairs reports to the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer working collaboratively with and advising the senior leadership team on policies and practices related to the student body. The Vice President for Student Affairs will lead a team of 15 professionals as well as numerous graduate assistants and student workers and maintain responsibility for a sector budget of over $2.5 million.


The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to liberal arts education and extensive experience in the broad areas of responsibility encompassed in the position. The candidate will also have a demonstrable track record of success and increasing responsibilities within a higher education setting and inspire the campus community to achieve the college’s goals for a diverse and inclusive residential experience. Additional requirements include:


  • A Ph.D. in Student Affairs, Educational Leadership or a related field is strongly preferred plus at least 10 years of progressively responsible administrative experience in higher education, preferably in student affairs/student development. Candidates with a Master’s degree and significant experience would be considered. Strong experience in leading and managing change, especially in Greek life.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in building collaborations across the campus and with the local community to provide for a positive and well-rounded student experience.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple diverse areas of responsibility.
