2D Specialist: Assistant Professor of Drawing and Painting

The Alma College Department of Art and Design seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position in Drawing and Painting beginning in August 2020. The Department of Art and Design includes concentrations in 2D (drawing and painting), 3D (ceramics and sculpture) and Digital Design (graphic design, web design, and animation). The successful candidate will be committed to teaching and promoting student success in a liberal arts context, and demonstrate evidence of an active exhibition record as well as an intricate knowledge of the media. Fluency in the practice and teaching of traditional painting and drawing techniques and material methodologies, pedagogical openness to exploring media beyond conventional practice, and the ability to integrate contemporary creative concepts into the undergraduate classroom are essential. Teaching responsibilities may include introductory, intermediate, and advanced classes in Drawing, Painting, and Figure Drawing; senior capstone classes in professional practices; and other courses that meet departmental or institutional needs, such as courses that contribute to the college’s general education curriculum. All faculty are expected to collaborate effectively across campus, embrace experiential learning and student engagement, and be active members of the broader campus community. An MFA or other related terminal degree is required prior to start date.
