The Alma College Board of Trustees, meeting Feb. 8, approved faculty tenure and promotions effective with the 2019-20 academic year.
Daniel Wasserman-Soler, assistant professor of history, was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor. Hired in 2013, he has a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. He has teaching and research interests in the medieval world, the Spanish empire, European renaissances and revolutions, the Reformation era and European enlightenment.
Dana Aspinall, associate professor of English, was promoted to professor. Hired in 2007, he has a Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut. He has teaching and research interests in Shakespeare and Renaissance literature and drama and directs the Presidential Honors Program.
Zhewei Dai, associate professor of mathematics, was promoted to professor. Hired in 2005, she has a Ph.D. from Michigan State University. She teaches elementary statistics, mathematical structures, financial mathematics and calculus.
Trustees also approved the awarding of emeritus status to Maurie Luetkemeier, professor of integrative physiology and health science and a faculty member since 2001, and Timothy Sipka, associate professor of mathematics, who joined the Alma faculty in 1979.
