Summer construction continues on the Alma College campus, with the major renovations to the Mitchell and Newberry residence halls on schedule for completion by the time our students return in August.
The third and second floor improvements in each building are nearly complete. Student rooms and hallways have been painted, and tile flooring has been installed throughout. The bathroom and shower areas are about 50 percent finished. On the exterior, the installation of new windows has begun, providing a more inviting and contemporary look to the buildings.
The work on Mitchell and Newberry launches a three-year campus modernization effort on Alma’s campus. Bruske Hall renovations will begin next summer, and the planning for that project is well under way. Improvements to the south campus complexes are scheduled for 2020. When completed, the renovated halls will feature all new infrastructure along with upgraded student rooms, private bathrooms, additional lounges and study space, and improved laundry facilities.
Did you know? Granger Construction, the manager of Alma’s residence hall renovations, reports that 650 gallons of paint were applied, 175,747 square feet of walls were restored, and 207,000 square feet of new flooring was installed during the month of June. Read more fun facts.
