Work on the major renovations to Mitchell and Newberry halls continues ahead of schedule for completion by the time our students return to campus in August. The finishes to the third-floor residential rooms will be 90 percent complete by the end of next week, with second-floor framing and painting on track for completion by the end of June.
The halls include two main bathroom groups on each residential floor. These areas have required additional structural support because of deterioration to the original construction materials, resulting in 4,000-square-feet of floor slab replacement. The bathroom structures have been rebuilt with focus now on the installation of floor and wall tiles, in-floor heating and water proofing.
Utility work begins on the water and sanitary lines beginning the week of June 18. No utility interruptions are planned for the campus or community.
As of June 12, the project is considered 41 percent complete, with 46 days (approximately 49,000 hours) worked and 61 work days remaining. There have been no major safety issues identified, and no lost-time incidents.
