After receiving over 1400 submissions from around the world, Alma College’s Pine River Film Festival is ready to launch on April 7th at the Strand Theater in downtown Alma.
The international program running from 12PM - 9PM on Saturday will showcase some of the best student fiction and documentary shorts from around the world.
To accommodate the larger event, the festival has partnered with the Strand Theater, located at 217 E Superior St. in Alma. Once boasting premieres of films from around the world, the Strand has been refurbished as a live theatre space where countless shows and plays have been performed since 1996.
As always, the festival is hosted and run and by New Media students at Alma College. This year’s director, Zachary Baker, a double major in New Media Studies and English, has written his honors NMS thesis on the importance of student film festivals as active learning spaces in higher ed.
Audience Awards will be presented to the films that receive the most votes at each category’s screening. Grand Jury Awards will be granted to the films that PRSFF’s panel of judges, world-class scholars and critics, select as the most distinguished in each category.
