Early Childhood students complete environmental assessment

Students from EDC 183 Introduction to Early Childhood Education gain hands-on experience completing environmental assessments.

These are photos are of the EDC 183 Introduction to Early Childhood Education class doing an environmental assessment in the Early Childhood Special Education room at Luce Road School in Alma.

Students observe the indoor and outdoor environments for two different programs and then make an assessment of the quality of each learning environment.  They do separate assessments of each program’s environments using check lists with rating scales. After they discuss their observations with classmates, they write a comparative paper. This assignment is an “awareness assignment” where they first read articles about quality early childhood environments, do the assessments, and then reflect on what they observed.
