Trustees Approve Faculty Tenure, Promotions

Faculty members John Davis, Ed Lorenz, Scott Messing, Cameron Reed and Carol Zeile are awarded emeritus status.

Anthony CollamatiAnthony CollamatiThe Alma College Board of Trustees, meeting Feb. 10, approved faculty tenure and promotions effective with the 2018-19 academic year.

Anthony Collamati, assistant professor of new media studies, was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor. Hired in 2011, he has a Ph.D. from Clemson University. He has research and teaching interests in digital media, video editing, filmmaking, screenwriting and media theory and culture.

Jessie StoreJessie StoreJessie Store, assistant professor of education, was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor. Hired in 2011, she has a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has teaching and research interests in mathematical learning in children, education research and connecting theory and practice in mathematics teacher education.

Brandi StupicaBrandi StupicaBrandi Stupica, assistant professor of psychology, was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor. Hired in 2011, she has a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland. She has teaching and research interests in developmental psychology, social development, interpersonal relationships and attachment theory.

Joel DopkeJoel DopkeJoel Dopke, associate professor of chemistry, was promoted to professor. Hired in 2007, he has a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has teaching and research interests in inorganic chemistry, organometallic chemistry and catalysis.

Murray GrossMurray GrossMurray Gross, associate professor of music, was promoted to professor. Hired in 2004 (tenure-track hire in 2005), he has a Ph.D. from Michigan State University. He directs the Alma Symphony Orchestra and has teaching and research interests in conducting, composition, contemporary music theory and exploring world music.

Holly LiuHolly LiuHolly Liu, associate professor of modern language, was promoted to professor. Hired in 2007, she has a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University. She teaches German and Chinese and has research interests in postwar and contemporary German literature, memory and narrative theory, East German cinema, and turn-of-the-century and contemporary Vienna.

Bob VivianBob VivianRobert Vivian, associate professor of English, was promoted to professor. Hired in 2001, he has a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska. He has teaching and research interests in creative writing, fiction writing, dervish essays, poetry and American literature.

Dave ZerbeDave ZerbeDave Zerbe, associate professor of music, was promoted to professor. Hired in 1988 (tenure-track hire in 2004), he has a master of music degree from Central Michigan University. He is the director of bands and percussive studies and has research interests in secondary education methods and percussion pedagogy.

Emeriti Faculty

Trustees also approved the awarding of emeritus status to John Davis, professor of integrative physiology and health science and a faculty member since 1985; Ed Lorenz, professor of history and political science, who joined the faculty in 1994; Scott Messing, professor of music, who joined the faculty in 1982; Cameron Reed, professor of physics, who joined the faculty in 1992; and Carol Zeile, professor of library science, who joined the faculty in 1998.
