Percussion Ensemble Achieves ‘Escape Velocity’

Fall concert includes “Xylophonia,” “Lift Off” and other traditional chamber, world, jazz and steel drum music.

Alma College Percussion EnsembleAlma College Percussion EnsembleThe Alma College Percussion Ensemble will open its fall concert with “Lift Off,” immerse itself in “Xylophonia” and wax nostalgic with “What a Wonderful Life” while contemplating “Milestones.”

The performance begins at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1 in the Remick Heritage Center, Presbyterian Hall. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for seniors 62 and up, and free for Alma College staff, students and youth 18 and under. Seating is reserved. Call (989) 463-7304 for ticket information.

The program includes “Lift Off” by Russell Peck, “Escape Velocity” and “Amorphous Solid” by Dave Hall, “Xylophonia” by Joe Green, “What a Wonderful Life” by Louis Armstrong and “Milestones” by Miles Davis.

The Percussion Ensemble, directed by David Zerbe, performs traditional chamber music as well as world music, jazz and steel drum music.
